Microsclerotherapy is a treatment for visible leg veins, commonly known as, ‘thread veins’ or ‘spider veins’.  These veins do not pose a risk to health if untreated.  Up to 8 out of 10 people with leg thread veins have associated varicose or feeder veins. If you are found to have deeper veins or varicose veins then you cannot have the treatment.

Microsclerotherapy is a straightforward procedure that is performed in a treatment room and usually takes between 30-45 minutes. 3 or 4 treatment sessions may be required to cause the veins to fade, this is approximate and varies from person to person. Microsclerotherapy is recognised to be the best treatment for leg thread veins. The most usual scenario is a 70-80% improvement in the appearance of the thread veins after a course of treatment.

The veins are injected with a solution which destroys the lining of the vein triggering a healing process causing the veins to fade or disappear.

The results of each treatment session may not become apparent for 6 – 12 weeks after treatment. Specific aftercare (including wearing compression socks) are required
