Stretch marks are a type of scar that develops when our skin stretches or shrinks quickly. This change causes the collagen and elastin to rupture. This damage to the skins structure can cause scarring in the form of stretch marks to appear.
Stretch marks are common in women who have been pregnant, or in those who are overweight.
They usually fade over time but they do not completely disappear.
